Winter in Annapolis is a magical season, so it is no surprise that so many people flock to the city to take part in the holiday festivities. Whether you want to enjoy a great restaurant, go on a shopping spree, or watch a holiday light display, Annapolis has it all.
One of the ways that many families celebrate the start of the season is by attending the Grand Illumination. Held from 5-8 pm on Sunday, December 1st, this event includes plenty of glistening lights and merriment. Santa even arrives by horse and carriage much to the delight of all of the children in attendance. This family-friendly event is free, so be sure to mark it on your calendar. It is one event that you will want to attend year after year.
Sponsored by the Annapolis Jaycees, the Grand Illumination is a spectacular way to kick off the downtown holiday season. Established in the 1920s, the Jaycees is a group of young men and women dedicated to developing personal and leadership skills through providing service to others. Well-known for their work with the March of Dimes and the Muscular Dystrophy Association, the Jaycees have also helped build houses, parks and assisted with numerous other worthy causes. For over 57 years, the Annapolis chapter has served as a strong presence in the community. They continue to hold events, like the Grand Illumination, that provide tremendous experiences for their members.
