Severna Park, Maryland real estate and homes for sale

Severna Park, Maryland Real Estate

Severna Park, Maryland, is a charming town of about 30,000 residents in Anne Arundel County nestled between the sparkling waters of the Severn River and Magothy River.

Characterized by well-established neighborhoods, excellent schools, incredible outdoor recreational opportunities, unique regional village shopping centers and easy access to universities and hospitals, Severna Park also offers an ever-expanding selection of new homes and waterfront properties along the Severn and the Magothy Rivers.

Thanks to the county's 500-plus miles of shoreline and wide-open green spaces, it’s easy to forget that the major urban centers of Baltimore, Washington D.C. and Maryland’s state capital Annapolis are a short drive or train ride away.

Severna Park is also near the National Security Agency, Fort Meade, the U.S. Naval Academy, and Baltimore Washington International Airport, making it the perfect home base for our mobile society.

Shopping and Dining

Cypress Creek Park and Kinder Park, along with seven other parks in the Severna Park area, provide a variety of sports facilities, including basketball courts, baseball and football fields, tennis courts, and hiking and jogging trails. There are also a lot of water sports to dive into, as well as marinas and swimming areas.

Severna Park is also home to the Greater Severna Park Athletic Association’s Green Hornet youth sports programs for children five to eighteen years old. More than 5,000 kids participate in the program’s eleven sports, which accommodate youth athletes at varying levels of skills, abilities and competition.

The waterfront provides marinas and docks for boating, sailing, and other aquatic activities. Numerous lush, green parks are found all across town, offering places to enjoy a picnic, take the kids to play, or enjoy various sports. The extensive bike trails and walking paths are also great for enjoying the natural beauty of Severna Park.

One of the best things about owning Severna Park real estate is the B&A Trail. People want to move as close as possible to the trail for easy access to all of the exercise and recreation opportunities it offers.

Anne Arundel County purchased the abandoned Annapolis and Baltimore Short Line Railroad Line in 1979 and immediately converted the 66-foot wide rail to a paved surface trail. The B&A Trail stretches 15.5 miles, from Jonas Green Park in Annapolis to Dorsey Road in Glen Burnie. It runs through the heart of Old Severna Park. More than two million visitors ride, walk, jog and skate along the trail each year.

Parks and Recreation

If you didn’t already know, or haven’t yet figured it out from reading this article, Anne Arundel County has been blessed with some of Mother Nature’s most picturesque features. It enjoys more than 534 miles of Chesapeake Bay coastline, more than 70 county parks, the 13-mile Baltimore and Annapolis Trail and a considerable amount of nature reserves.

With all of these green areas and scenic waterways, Anne Arundel County is a mecca for fishing, boating, sailing and several other aquatic activities. Along with a number of gorgeous and challenging golf courses, the county’s parks and natural areas are excellent for walkers, bikers and runners.

Historically significant sites include the World War II Monument and Scenic Overlook, which honors Marylanders who died in World War II; and the Hartge Nautical Museum, which collects and preserves relics and records of the tools, drawings, books, maps, charts, and stories about the people and boats of the West River and Chesapeake Bay, dating back to 1832.
