Odenton/Fort Meade real estate is comprised of newer and fast-growing young communities. The 2010 Census reported that Odenton was the fastest growing town in Anne Arundel County, showing a 42% growth in the last ten years. New developments continue to pop up in young areas all over Odenton and Fort Meade, making it a hot area to purchase real estate. The 2005 Base Realignment and Closure of Fort Meade is one reason for the growth; another is the area’s ideal location just a short drive from Baltimore and Fort Meade’s still-active U.S. Army installation, which is adjacent to Odenton.

Shopping and Dining

Odenton and Fort Meade boast a multitude of fantastic shopping centers and retail outlets, as well as fine dining establishments and casual eateries. Academy Junction Plaza, Village Center and Odenton Shopping Center all have what shoppers are looking for, with everything from brand name apparel to housewares and furnishings. A bevy of unique local restaurants also inhabit the communities of Odenton and Fort Meade, including Bangkok Kitchen in Odenton and Grace Garden, an authentic Chinese restaurant right across from the Fort Meade army base.

Odenton real estate is currently undergoing massive development, especially in its town center. The new Odenton Town Center, located in the heart of downtown, is a 1,600-unit, mixed-use development that will be transit friendly, connecting Odenton’s Town Center to surrounding areas. This in turn will bring more economic growth into the area, as visitors will be able to patronize exciting new Odenton retail and commercial venues.

Parks and Recreation

Fun and relaxation are also easy to come by in Odenton and Fort Meade. Odenton Park gives residents an opportunity to enjoy scenic views of Anne Arundel County while partaking in games, or simply going for a jog. There is also a playground for the children and a concession stand in case hunger pangs interrupt. Golfers will love Fort Meade’s three distinctly challenging 9-hole courses, aptly named The Courses. Although the Courses are difficult, with four different sets of tees, players of all skill levels should have a good chance to put a low number on the scorecard.

The exciting expansion of the Odenton and Fort Meade area has brought more interest in its residential living spaces and has created new communities. The Base Realignment and Closure, while difficult for those directly involved, has provided new homebuyers with a new option for affordable living in Anne Arundel County. Overall, Odenton and Fort Meade real estate has a little bit of everything – large open estate properties, condos, single-family homes and many new developments in thriving communities. One of these young communities is Odenton’s Piney Orchard, which is home to 8,500 residents. More than 3,500 homes have been built in Piney Orchard, since the development started in 1991 and today it is an active community that is highly desirable to new homebuyers. Piney Orchard homes feature plenty of amenities and come at reasonable prices, so you won’t have to spend a bundle on luxury.

Schools, Health, Transportation

Odenton and Fort Meade real estate owners and residents are served by the Anne Arundel Public School System. Since there are no public high schools in Odenton, Odenton students attend either Arundel High School in Gambrills or Meade Senior High School in Fort Meade. The 2,300 students of Meade Senior High enjoy the curriculum that includes art, army, business education and consumer science courses.

Odenton and Fort Meade residents are nearby several major hospitals, so in case of an emergency, they shouldn’t have to worry about getting treatment quickly. Harbor Hospital in Brooklyn, MD is six miles from Odenton and Baltimore-Washington Medical Center is eight miles away in Glen Burnie.

Odenton and Fort Meade both have excellent access to highways and major roads that allow residents to travel freely and easily into surrounding areas in the Baltimore Metro area. Interstate 97 and the Baltimore-Washington Parkway make getting around convenient and safe. With the current development projects going on in Odenton’s Town Center, public transit will soon become a mainstay and a viable and convenient method of travel as well.
